HEBREWS 6:1-2



The Other Day

The other day I went to a Christian conference on Faith.

I was so enjoying all the teaching on the subject, as Faith in God

is the second layer; of the Christian faith.

This is found in;

Hebrews 6:1-2

"Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on

unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works,

and of faith toward God,

2 Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of

the dead, and of eternal judgment."



Did you notice what the first layer of our Christian faith is?

As stated in the scripture above (Hebrews 6:1-2), the first layer of our

Christian faith is - Repentance.


What is Repentance?

Repentance is to stop sinning; to go from wickedness and to do what is right.


An Unhealthy, Incorrect Foundation

Many people are taught very well on the subject of; Faith in God.

This is good, for we know;

Hebrews 11:6

"But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God

must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him."


The Problem

The problem is that people are not taught the first foundation of our Christian faith;

which is to repent.

Many people have great faith, but live a life of continual sin.

Living a life of continual sin, without repentance; will lead you into Hell and

The Eternal Lake of Fire.


My Story

I found out the vital importance of repentance, when the Lord warned me to

leave my life of sin, or Hell would be my eternal future.


I was a person who believed in the Lord.

I was a person full of faith in God.

I was a person who went to Church.

I was a person who read my Bible.

I was a person who attended teaching conferences.

I was a person full of the Holy Ghost.

I was also a person who began to sin much, after enduring great pain;

as a means to escape the reality and suffering of my situation.

Then, I was a person taken into the chambers of Hell and warned to

leave my life of sin, or Hell would be my home - to my regret and God's sorrow.


My Problem

I was never taught the first foundation of our Christian faith;

that being to leave sin, and do what is right.

I was never taught about the severity of; the consequences of sin;

Romans 11:22

"Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell,

severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness:

otherwise thou also shalt be cut off."


We ask God to forgive us, as we go along life's journey. 

We are not to take God's love and mercy for granted.

We are to obey him.


Vital Need

Here are some vital scriptures, the Lord gave me as a faith filled Christian;

in order for me to make a sane decision to obey unto eternal life;

instead of losing my soul in eternal damnation.


The Scriptures

Galatians 5:19-21

"Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery,

fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,

20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife,

seditions, heresies,

21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the

which I tell you before, as I have also told you

in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom

of God."


Hebrews 10:26-31

"For if we sin willfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth,

there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,

27 But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall

devour the adversaries.

28 He that despised Moses' law died without mercy under two or three witnesses:

29 Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who

hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant,

wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto

the Spirit of grace? 30 For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me,

I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people.

31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God."


1 Corinthians 6:9-10

"Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God?

Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate,

nor abusers of themselves with mankind,

10 Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall

inherit the kingdom of God."


Revelation 21:7-8

"He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and

he shall be my son.

8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers,

and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have

their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the

second death."


Jude 1:5-7

"I will therefore put you in remembrance, though ye once knew this, how

that the Lord, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward

destroyed them that believed not.

6 And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation,

he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the

great day.

Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner,

giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth

for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire."


Matthew 13:37-43

"He answered and said unto them, He that soweth the good seed is the

Son of man;

38 The field is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom;

but the tares are the children of the wicked one;

39 The enemy that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the

world; and the reapers are the angels.

40 As therefore the tares are gathered and burned in the fire; so shall it

be in the end of this world.

41 The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out

of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity;

42 And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and

gnashing of teeth.

43 Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their

Father. Who hath ears to hear, let him hear."


Hebrews 12:14-15

"Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall

see the Lord:

15 Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root

of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled."

just as faith is.

Repentance and faith go together, as your right foot and left foot.

You need both feet to walk forward, just as you need faith and repentance;
