Christian Marriage.

Make sure you marry a Christian, or you will be in direct rebellion against God and suffer greatly.

2 CORINTHIANS 6:14-18

"Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath

righteousness with unrighteousness? And what communion hath light with

darkness?

15 And what concord hath Christ with  Belial? Or what part hath he that believeth

with an infidel?

16 And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols?

For ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them,

and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord,

and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you.

18 And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith

the Lord Almighty."

If you are married to an unbeliever, here is your direction.

1 CORINTHIANS 7:12-16

"But to the rest speak I, not the Lord: If any brother hath a wife that believeth

not, and she be pleased to dwell with him, let him not put her away.

13 And the woman which hath an husband that believeth not, and if he be pleased

to dwell with her, let her not leave him. 14 For the unbelieving husband  is sanctified

by the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified by the husband: else were your

children unclean; but now are they holy.

15 But if the unbelieving depart, let him depart. A brother or a sister is not under

bondage in such cases: but God hath called us to peace. 16 For what knowest thou,

O wife, whether thou shalt save thy husband? Or how knowest thou, O man, whether

thou shalt save thy wife?"

    GENESIS 2:7-15

"And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. 8 And the Lord God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed. 9 And out of the ground made the Lord God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil. 10 And a river went out of Eden to water the garden; and from thence it was parted, and became into four heads. 11 The name of the first is Pison: that is it which compasseth the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold; 12 And the gold of that land is good: there is bdellium and the onyx stone. 13 And the name of the second river is Gihon: the same is it that compasseth the whole land of Ethiopia. 14 And the name of the third river is Hiddekel: that is it which goeth toward the east of Assyria. And the fourth river is Euphrates. 15 And the Lord God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it."

    God then; created Eve.
    GENESIS 2:18-25

"And the Lord God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him. 19 And out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof. 20 And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him. 21 And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; 22 And the rib, which the Lord God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man. 23 And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. 24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh. 25 And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed."

    God's Boundaries.

    GENESIS 2:16-17

    mayest freely eat:

17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for

in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die."

And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? 2 And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: 3 But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die. 4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: 5 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. 6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat. 7 And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons. 8 And they heard the voice of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God amongst the trees of the garden. 9 And the Lord God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou? 10 And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself. 11 And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat? 12 And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat. 13 And the Lord God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat. 14 And the Lord God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life: 15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel. 16 Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee. 17 And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life; 18 Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field; 1In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return. 20 And Adam called his wife's name Eve; because she was the mother of all living. 21 Unto Adam also and to his wife did the Lord God make coats of skins, and clothed them. 22 And the Lord God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live forever: 23 Therefore the Lord God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken. 24 So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life."

Adam and Eve should have believed God, instead of doubting his commands and consequences.

GENESIS 3:1

"Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?"

Many in society do not understand the marital union, God created.

Let us look at this union, through the eyes of scripture.

Who is in charge?

God's order; of authority.

COLOSSIANS 11:3

To yield to one's admonition or advice.

Meaning =  Christians are commanded firstly to submit to God, and then one another.

All Society is commanded, to submit to God.

JAMES 4:7

"Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you."

Husbands submit to God.

Adam should have submitted to God, instead of disobeying him.

Disobedience always causes regret.

When you sin, confess and forsake your sin, and God will forgive you.

1 JOHN 1:8-10

"If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us."

PROVERBS 28:13

"He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy."

Realization.

Realize you have found favor with God, upon finding a wife.

PROVERBS 18:22

Love.

1 PETER 3:7

"Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered."

EPHESIANS 5:25-29

"Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; 26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, 27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish. 28 So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself. 29 For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church."

EPHESIANS 5:33

Wives are to submit, to their husbands.

We can clearly read the responsibility of the wife.

EPHESIANS 5:22-24

"Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. 23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. 24 Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything."

COLOSSIANS 3:18

"Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as it is fit in the Lord."

If you are not ready to submit, do not get married.

A marriage out of submission on any level, is not Godly.

This type of union will end up deformed, unwhole and ruined.

It is never too late to restructure your home, under the direction and commands of God.

In so doing, your marriage will bloom and flourish - as it is intended.

Marriage Essentials.

1. Looking out for each other; spiritually.

This was the attack from satan, on the first couple.

You need to look out for one another spiritually, making sure you are both on

the straight and narrow path - with God.

MATTHEW 7:13-14

"Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that

leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:

14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and

few there be that find it."

You need to remember; satan prowls around, seeking whom he may devour.

1 PETER 5:8

"Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh

about, seeking whom he may devour."

Are you both staying out of the world, and keeping yourself pure?

JAMES 1:27

"Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless

and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world."

Are you both feeding on the word of God - on a daily basis?

MATTHEW 4:4

"It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth

out of the mouth of God."

If one of you is weak, the other must be strong.

1 THESSALONIANS 5:14

"Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the feebleminded,

support the weak, be patient toward all men."

2. Considering the other more important, than yourself.

We live in a selfish society.

Marriage is not to be a selfish union.

Marriage is to be a union of two mature adults, who consider the other - above themselves.

PHILIPPIANS 2:3

"Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each

esteem other better than themselves."

3. Love, the right way.

Some believe love is about getting, while others know it is about covenant - both

giving and receiving.

1 CORINTHIANS 13:4-13

"Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, 5 Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; 6 Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; 7 Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.8 Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away. 9 For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. 10 But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away. 11 When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things. 12 For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known. 13 And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity."

4. Sex.

Sexual Enjoyment.

Sex was made for marriage, and is to be enjoyed - as a gift from God.

HEBREWS 13:4

"Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and

adulterers God will judge."

PROVERBS 5:15-19

"Drink waters out of thine own cistern, and running waters out of thine own well. 16 Let thy fountains be dispersed abroad, and rivers of waters in the streets. 17 Let them be only thine own, and not strangers' with thee. 18 Let thy fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of thy youth. 19 Let her be as the loving hind and pleasant roe; let her breasts satisfy thee at all times; and be thou ravished always with her love."

Sexual Responsibility.

If you do not want to have sex, do not get married.

Neither the husband or the wife, is to withhold sex from the other.

1 CORINTHIANS 7:3-6

"Let the husband render unto the wife due benevolence: and likewise also the wife unto the husband. 4 The wife hath not power of her own body, but the husband: and likewise also the husband hath not power of his own body, but the wife. 5 Defraud ye not one the other, except it be with consent for a time, that ye may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again, that Satan tempt you not for your incontinency. 6 But I speak this by permission, and not of commandment."

Because the Lord hath been witness between thee and the wife of thy youth, against whom thou hast dealt treacherously: yet is she thy companion, and the wife of thy covenant. 15 And did not he make one? Yet had he the residue of the spirit. And wherefore one? That he might seek a godly seed. Therefore take heed to your spirit, and let none deal treacherously against the wife of his youth. 16 For the Lord, the God of Israel, saith that he hateth putting away: for one covereth violence with his garment, saith the Lord of hosts: therefore take heed to your spirit, that ye deal not treacherously."

What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder. 7 They say unto him, Why did Moses then command to give a writing of divorcement, and to put her away? We know all adulterers inherit - The Lake of Fire.

GALATIANS 5:19-21

"Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, 20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, 21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God."

If you find yourself in a mess, confess your sins to God and allow him to

forgive you, and lead you to wholeness.

God expects you to remain married - until death separates you.

ROMANS 7:2-3

"For the woman which hath an husband is bound by the law to her husband so long as he liveth; but if the husband be dead, she is loosed from the law of her husband. 3 So then if, while her husband liveth, she be married to another man, she shall be called an adulteress: but if her husband be dead, she is free from that law; so that she is no adulteress, though she be married to another man."

You are free to re-marry, after the death of your spouse. But this person

must be a Christian.

1 CORINTHIANS 7:39

"The wife is bound by the law as long as her husband liveth; but if her husband be dead, she is at liberty to be married to whom she will; only in the Lord."

Re- Marriage.

If you find yourself in a mess, confess your sins to God and allow him to forgive you,

and lead you to wholeness.

What about fighting?

Fighting is caused from not getting your needs, or desires met.

Communication is the issue.

Communication is essential in a marriage, as it is in any relationship.

Speaking with respect, clearly and with a soft tone - eliminates a bad response

or no response.

Listening is also of extreme importance, as you will focus on what the person is

truly saying, instead of what you think they are saying.

PROVERBS 15:1-2

"A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.

2 The tongue of the wise useth knowledge aright: but the mouth of fools poureth

out foolishness."

God does not approve of physical or verbal abuse.

1 PETER 3:8-12

"Finally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous: 9 Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing. 10 For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile: 11 Let him eschew evil, and do good; let him seek peace, and ensue it. 12 For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil."

MALACHI 2:13-16

"And this have ye done again, covering the altar of the Lord with tears, with weeping, and with crying out, insomuch that he regardeth not the offering any more, or receiveth it with good will at your hand. 14 Yet ye say, Wherefore?

Counseling.

If there is violence being done to you, or your children - seek protection and secure it.

The offender needs to seek biblical counseling and restructuring.

Only when this occurs, is it safe for you to cohabitate.

Counseling is God instituted and needed, in some circumstances.

Do not hesitate to seek professional, Godly Christian counseling.

MATTHEW 18:15-17

"Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother. 16 But if he will not hear thee, then take with thee one or two more, that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established. 17 And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell it unto the church: but if he neglect to hear the church, let him be unto thee as an heathen man and a publican."

What about the children?

Children are to be under submission, to their parents.

EPHESIANS 6:1-3

"Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. 2 Honour thy father and mother; which is the first commandment with promise; 3 That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth."

BIBLE STUDY - PARENTING

What about the in laws?

In laws are not to control the marriage.

The couple must separate themselves - as a couple.

The in laws must respect this unit - as Godly and as one.

GENESIS 2:21-25

"And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; 22 And the rib, which the Lord God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.

EPHESIANS 5:31

"For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh."

MATTHEW 19:4-6

"And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female, And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh? 6 Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder."

What about finances?

Remember the authority line - of submission.

WEALTH AND FINANCE - BIBLE STUDY

What about work?

Who should work, the husband or the wife?

The husband should be the provider of the home.

1 TIMOTHY 5:8

"But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel."

The wife may work, subject to her husband's permission.

What about household chores?

That depends on who is working, outside of the home.

If the wife is at home, she should attend to the household chores.

If the couple is both working, they should decide.

If the couple has children, they should be given tasks.

What about friends?

We as Christians are not to be intimately involved, with unbelievers.

We are commanded by God, to use wisdom - in all areas of fellowship.

Bad company corrupts good morals.

1 CORINTHIANS 15:33

"Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners."

We are to be the influence to all men, leading them to salvation.

MATTHEW 5:13

"Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? It is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men."
