What is Going On With All The Bible Versions?

Good question.

When I began to study the Bible, there were so many translations to pick from.

How is one to know which one to use?

The English Translation

Let us look at the origin of the Bible; in it's English form.

In 1604, King James I of England authorized that a new translation of the Bible;

be put into English.

It was finished in 1611, just 85 years after the first translation of the New Testament

into English appeared in 1526; by William Tyndale.

The Authorized Version, or King James Version, quickly became the standard; for English

speaking Protestants.

It's flowing language and prose rhythm has had a profound influence; on the literature of

the past 400 years.

The King James Bible Version is the purest form from the original Hebrew of the

Old Testament; and Greek of the New Testament.

How Did We Acquire Such A Huge Variety Of Versions, To Choose From?

1. Understanding

Some people assumed that the King James Version, was too difficult to understand.

These people are unaware of the fact that; God leads us into all truth, as we open

the Bible.

John 16:13-14

"Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth:

for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak:

and he will shew you things to come.

14 He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you."

2. Monetary Gain

The lure of monetary gain has caused many people to write their own "take"

on the Bible; instead of heeding God's warning,

not to add or to subtract from the Word of God.

Revelation 22:18-19

"For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book,

If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that

are written in this book:

19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy,

God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and

from the things which are written in this book."

Are These Other Versions Accurate & Safe To Read?

Not in my opinion, for the following reasons.

1. The changing of words from one meaning to another; to an individual's

harm and loss.

Example:

Proverbs 9:1-2 - (King James Version)

"Wisdom hath builded her house, she hath hewn out her seven pillars:

2 She hath killed her beasts; she hath mingled her wine; she hath also

furnished her table."

Meaning:

Wisdom is the fear of the Lord.  (Proverbs 9:2)

This individual has the fear of the Lord.

This person has cut out for themself, the pillars of life; with the foundation being -

The fear of the Lord.

This individual has overcome and destroyed the devils in their life; that once

held them captive.

This person drinks the blood of the lamb; and furnishes their table with;

The Word of God. This person is unleavened.

Now - Other Versions

Now let us look at this scripture; in the other versions;

1. Proverbs 9:2  (Amplified Bible)

"Wisdom has built her [spacious and sufficient] house; She has hewn out and

set up her seven pillars.

She has prepared her food, she has mixed her wine;
She has also set her table."

2. Proverbs 9:2  (NIV - New International Version)

"Wisdom has built her house; she has set up[a] its seven pillars.

She has prepared her meat and mixed her wine;  she has also set her table."

3. Proverbs 9:2  (NASB - New American Standard Version)

"Wisdom has built her house, She has hewn out her seven pillars;

She has [a]prepared her food, she has mixed her wine; She has also set her table."

4. Proverbs 9:2  (TLB - Living Bible)

"Wisdom has built a palace supported on seven pillars, 2 and has prepared a

great banquet, and mixed the wines."

5. Proverbs 9:2  (MSG - Message Bible)

"Lady Wisdom has built and furnished her home; it’s supported by seven

hewn timbers. The banquet meal is ready to be served: lamb roasted, wine

poured out, table set with silver and flowers.

6. Proverbs 9:2  (NKJV - New King James Version)

"Wisdom has built her house, She has hewn out her seven pillars;

She has slaughtered her meat, She has mixed her wine, She has also furnished

her table."

7. Proverbs 9:2  (NLT - New Living Translation)

"Wisdom has built her house; she has carved its seven columns.

She has prepared a great banquet, mixed the wines, and set the table."

Summary of Other Versions

As you can see, the words in the other versions have been changed, watered

down and eliminated. The elimination of the devil is present; and our desperate

and vital need - to overcome him in this life.

Overcoming the devil is not an option with God; it is mandatory.

Heed the scripture;

Revelation 2:11

"He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches;

He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death.

Judge For Yourself
